Position Mission
To provide the tactical and operational resource to plan, implement and control the operation, maintenance and logistics of all Farm Services, including the plant and equipment fleet, utilities, buildings and estate infrastructure and irrigation.

Outcomes and Objectives
  • Establish and implement machine and irrigation system service schedules
  • Planning and procuring machine spares for minimum stock levels
  • Formulate a maintenance budget, taking into account pro-active and re-active repairs and maintenance for all company assets
  • Manage third party contracts from procurement of services through to control of the execution phase, taking preemptive action to ensure that deadlines are met to the required quality
  • Manage procurement of materials through the Procurement Officer, ensuring that procedure is followed and that technical specifications for all materials are met by vendors
  • Monitor daily fuel consumptions of all machines through the implementation of machine logbooks
  • Monitor and control all work through the implementation of jobcards
  • Establish inventory controls to minimize shrinkage or misuse
  • Manage inventory through the Stores Officer, ensuring that procedure is followed for tracking of all materials from receipt through to issue
  • Source suitably qualified and capable local staff for technical services, and implement training where required
  • Develop and implement plans to minimize damage to the environment through contamination and waste management
  • Establish the of overall direction for sub-ordinate staff to ensure the implementation of plans for environmental and social health and safety
  • Establish a reporting system to monitor all health and safety incidents and activities in the Business Unit through the function of the Health and Safety Manager

Experience and qualifications
  • Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; or qualified as a Heavy Plant Engineer through a recognized apprenticeship
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the management of a heavy plant workshop or similar enterprise
