On behalf of our client XYLO Group, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Construction Manager to work in Uganda
Reporting To: Chief Executive Officer

Responsibilities
The Construction Manager will:
• Together with the HSSE Manager, prioritise HSSE within the project culture and integrate within all activities
• Control and deliver the project programme and budgets
• Coordinate and oversee the construction and operation contractors, including management of interfaces and overseeing performance according to the contract requirements
• Supervise the owner’s construction team, including the owners’ engineers and advisers to the project teams
• Engage with owner’s legal counsel and contracts management support to issue and respond to claims and variation orders for the construction contracts
• Prepare regular reporting for management and present this as required
• Review design drawings and advise the Contractor where required
• Working together with the Owner’s Engineer, regular review of drawings to ensure the Contractor has ready for construction drawings
• Coordinate partner working groups for commercial, technical, and E&S workstreams
• Support the Owner Feedstock Manager to secure the suitable quantities and types of feedstocks for the plant, as well as assess the opportunities and risks of the plant digestate
• Engage with landowners and wayleave owners at the plant locations, including overseeing access and logistics
• Engage with off taker to enable export of energy from the plant
• Monitor and delegate permitting and licensing obligations for the construction and operation for the plants
• Manage relationships with project stakeholders, including internal and external clients and vendors. Keep the stakeholders informed of progress and issues to manage expectations on all project requirements and deliverables
• Contribute to the achievement of the Owner business plan
• All other project management tasks as may be assigned by the Project executive
• Might be required to stay in Jinja from time to time basing on the Project Construction requirement
Qualifications & education of the Construction Manager
• Bsc Civil Engineering or higher
• Construction supervision in Uganda or within the East African Region
• Has in-depth knowledge and skill in the energy sector and built environment.
• Has biomass plant or power project delivery experience
Experience & aptitude
• At least 8 to 10 years’ experience of managing infrastructure projects, and preferably biomass projects;
• Experience as a construction manager within an Owner’s Team as well as within an EPCM and/or EPC service provider is an added advantage;
• Approaches a problem by using a logical, systematic and sequential approach;
• Anticipates the implications and consequences of situations and takes appropriate action in preparation for possible contingencies;
• Finds effective solutions by taking a holistic, abstract or theoretical perspective;
• Analyses the competitive position using a strength, weakness, opportunity and threat (SWOT) analysis, if required;
• Identifies what needs to be done and addresses it before being asked to or required by the circumstances;
• Focuses on the desired end result of one’s own or one’s unit’s work. Sets challenging goals, focuses effort on the goals and meets or exceeds them;
• Ensures that one’s own and other’s work (within the project team) and information are complete and accurate. Thorough preparation for meetings and presentations. Follows up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled;
• Willingness to make difficult decisions in a timely manner;
• Ability to perform with insight, acuteness, and intelligence in the areas of commerce and / or industry.
• High EQ and the ability to effectively to engage and communicate with project stakeholders.
Language
• Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
• Preference for fluency in (Swahili)
