Purpose of the job
Engineering & Maintenance has a mandate to oversee the execution of local preventive maintenance and repair of processing equipment, clean & black utilities, laboratory equipment and facilities at the mRNA-based vaccine manufacturing site. Also, it handles projects, equipment/systems commissioning & qualification, process automation, and calibration in line with cGxP principles.
The Associate Instruments participates in performing a wide variety of skilled tasks including electrical installations, planned maintenance & repairs, troubleshooting, planning, modification, design, installation & calibration of instrumentation and electrical systems for manufacturing equipment, laboratory equipment and utilities, participating in qualification activities that include Design Qualification (DQ), Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT). In addition to the above, the Technician is responsible for training staff in the operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic instrumentation equipment amongst other duties.
Main responsibilities
• Installation, configuration and troubleshooting of automation equipment in the plant and utilities for example, VFDs, flowmeters, process controllers and PLCs.
• Carry out internal calibration of selected instruments.
• Actively participate in the wiring and setup of all IEDs for both GMP and non-GMP areas
• Assist the Automation Engineers during all loop checks for BMS, EMS and Clean Utilities for all buildings
• Work closely with the Calibration Engineer and Providers during scheduled calibration activities on-site and offsite.
• Learn the process flow of the manufacturing process and relate with the CFC and SFC logic implemented in PCS 7.
• Troubleshoot and rectify all instrument related issues that will arise during automation commissioning and loop checks
• Assist the Automation Engineer in planning on spares related to process control.
• Carry out routine maintenance on process control equipment following the maintenance schedule.
• Resolve all technical breakdowns on the EMS and BMS control equipment.
• Write daily reports/updates to Automation Engineer pertaining to the process control system diagnostics and related faults.
• Familiarize with the PCS 7 OS client User Interfaces to carry out system diagnostics and troubleshooting
• Active involvement in the SAT for both the DP and DS BioNTainers.
• Troubleshooting and installation of various OT equipment in the DCS network
• Work closely with the IT department to commission the IT container equipment including the servers and thin clients.
• Attend and actively participate in all departmental meetings.
• Adhering to Safety, Health and Environment policy at Site.
• Technical report writing.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager.
Work Experience, Skills, and Abilities
Educational level
Diploma in Electrical/Automation Engineering
Professional experiences/Knowledge
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Instrumentation and Automation in the Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry or FMCG factories.
• Ability to speak and write in English language.
• Deep knowledge in electrical installation, programming and configuration of Variable Frequency Drives and soft starters.
• High level of circuit analysis of control systems and PID loops.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements, methodologies, concepts, and requirements related to process automation.
• Programming and configuration of process controller and PID logic.
• Knowledge and deep understanding of calibration of various measuring and control instruments.
• Ability to do circuit design using computer aided software like AutoCAD Electrical, SkyCAD Electrical.
• Deep knowledge of configuration and installation of various transmitters and digital flowmeters.
• Good knowledge and skills in troubleshooting and installing industrial communication networks.
• Good knowledge of PLC programming, installation, and troubleshooting. Particularly, SIEMENS S7 series CPUs.
• Good knowledge in DCS systems and Siemens PCS 7.
• Deep understanding of electrical drawings and P&IDs.
• Excellent computer skills and use of Microsoft office tools.
• Excellent skills in industrial and domestic wiring and installation.
• Self-motivated work attitude.
• Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
• Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
Other requirements
• Training certificates in electrical installation/instrumentation/PLC programming/process automation.
• Vision (Near, Distance, Peripheral, Depth Perception)
• Sense of touch
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Clothing/Equipment (PPC/E) (Safety Glasses, Hard Hats, Safety Shoes, & Safety Harness)
• Climb towers with fall protection, work at heights.
