On behalf of our Tanzania based client, we are looking for a competent and experienced Music & Licensing Lead, Tanzania.
Job Overview.
Music and Licensing Lead will be help grow Africa's leading online music service focused on the mass market. The company has +34.5m monthly users across Africa, with Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya being main markets, music licensed directly from +150,000 African musicians and 1.7m international songs available through licensing agreements with Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and Believe Digital.
The Company has experienced rapid growth in recent years and we are currently a team of 40 full-time staff spread across Africa. Company has a focus on 5 African countries and aims to grow to 40,000,000 users before June 2025.
  • We offer millions of songs from Africa and abroad for free download and streaming.
  • The music can be accessed directly from our website (mdundo.com) and Android app, including the newest releases, DJ mixes, playlists, podcasts and music news.
  • We monetise our platform through advertisement sales as well as telco-bundle subscriptions paid by the end-consumer.
  • We pay the rights owners a revenue split on all revenue generated on the recordings.
Key Objective: 
  • Establish and grow value through strong relationships and frequent interactions with Tanzania’s biggest artists and record labels.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and onboard top artists and record labels in Tanzania
  • Build and maintain excellent relations with top content partners in the region to make deals happen
  • Stay ahead of and track music trends & missing content in the various countries.
  • Manage the whole licensing process from talking to partners to signing contracts and delivering content.
  • Report on country activities to the Senior Music and Licensing Lead for East Africa.
  • Create monetary value through partnerships with musicians and record labels in Tanzania.
Qualifications:
  • Thorough understanding of music and the contemporary music scene
  • Have a good understanding of the digital music industry and a strong grasp of the music industry's past and future.
  • Be a strategic thinker and problem solver with the ability to transform goals into actionable plans.
  • Have experience with strategic planning and ability to observe, examine, and refine systems and processes and you are familiar with different strategic planning methods like OKRs and KPIs
  • Be comfortable with decision-making and exercising sound judgment when confronted with many varying opinions
  • Have 3+ years of experience in artist relations, music management or similar fields
  • Excellent communicator 
  • Experience in the sales process, proposal writing, presentation and negotiation to effectively close deals. 
  • You are eager to learn and grow, and to help others do the same
